Caretaking Tips

CARE TIPS*Before ordering your Discus, make sure your tank is biologically cycled.* If possible a quarantined tank for the 1st week would be ideal, if you have one. The Discus will possibly be stressed due to shipping and it would be beneficial.* Tank temperature should be kept between 83-85 degrees.* Our Discus, are raised in filtered tap water, with a P.H. of 6.0-7.0, with a T.D.S. of 145-186 P.P.M.* A weekly water change of 25% - 35% should be done.FEEDING* Feed juvenile fish 2-3 times per day.* We feed a variety of foods, frozen brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, Beef heart Flake and beef heart mix.* When feeding granules we recommend in a small container to soak them before feeding as they could swell in the stomach if not soaked for a few minutes, and also defrost frozen food in a small container before feeding.* Do not feed Discus live worms.* Do not keep Discus with aggressive fish or even aggressive eaters as Discus will not compete for food.ACCLAMATION* Unlike imported Discus, remember our Discus are, “Tank Raised”, in filtered tap water, they are tough and should adjust faster.* When your Discus arrives, we recommend floating the bags for approx. 1/2 hr. to adjust to your water temperature.* Next, using a clean bucket or container, open all the bags and place the Discus in the container.* Next, either slowly drip water from your tank, or add a couple cups full of your tank water every 5 to 10 minutes, do this until you have at least doubled there water volume, then simply place Discus into your tank.* Feeding is not recommended until the following day.* If you have any other questions or concerns you can contact us, via contact page.
